Cataracts

The world's leading cause of blindness — and a significant impairment when surgery is not an option.

Cataracts
Overview

What you need to know about cataracts.

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Approximately 20.5 million Americans age 40 and older have cataracts, and more than half of all Americans develop cataracts by age 80.

While many cataracts can be treated successfully with surgery, not every patient is a surgical candidate, and complications or co-existing eye conditions can leave significant residual vision loss. The Social Security Administration evaluates the resulting visual impairment under the special senses listings.

We help clients document visual acuity, visual field, and the functional impact of vision loss to pursue the disability benefits they need.
